1. Monairo: a shared budget that includes everyday cash

Monairo is built around the household ledger. You and your partner can keep separate bank accounts, invite each other into the same household and use one set of category budgets. Duo includes Pro for both people; the free capture tier does not include shared budgeting. Monairo plans.

The purchase is the starting point. Enter a coffee, supermarket shop or cash market payment by voice, tap or receipt, then check the proposed fields. With a paid budget, you see the effect on the matching category before saving. That helps review an intended purchase or record one already made; it does not block card payments.

Manual capture can continue offline after setup and synchronize later. A partner's phone needs connectivity for updates, and speech recognition may need the internet. Confirm the speech languages supported on your own device; this comparison does not establish complete Dutch localization. See the shared-expenses setup guide.

2. Dyme: connected spending and Dutch subscription services

Dyme is useful when you prefer bank records to supply the spending history. Its official account page describes connecting accounts, while its help explains automatic categorization and category-limit alerts. It therefore offers budgeting as well as subscription discovery. Account overview; budget tools.

Its contract services are a separate reason to consider it. Dyme offers help cancelling subscriptions and negotiating fixed contracts. Its stated fee for successful contract negotiation is 30% of the annual saving; cancellation services can also carry charges. Read the offer for the particular action, rather than assuming a free download makes every service free. Dyme's service and fee explanation.

Monairo does not provide those merchant-facing services. Tracking a recurring expense in Monairo does not cancel the contract, establish that a payment succeeded or guarantee an advance renewal notification. The subscription-management guide explains the differences.

A fictional cash purchase in a Dutch household

Fictional example: a couple in Utrecht allocates €180.00 for this week's groceries within their monthly household plan. They have recorded €126.50. One partner pays €18.50 in cash at the market. Recorded spending becomes €145.00, leaving €35.00 of their agreed weekly allowance. They can record that purchase in Monairo and keep the shared monthly category total current. This is illustrative arithmetic, not a claim that Monairo has weekly budget periods.

Dyme's help page currently says cash payments cannot be entered; without a bank connection, manual input is limited to fixed costs. That matters if cash is part of your household routine. The article was last updated in August 2024 and remained the published guidance when checked, so verify whether the current app has changed. Dyme cash and connection help.

A cash withdrawal and a market purchase are different events. Decide how to categorize withdrawals so you do not count the same money once at the ATM and again when it is spent. Test this with a small example in your chosen app before moving the household's records.

Will these apps connect to Dutch banks?

Monairo's active bank integration is TrueLayer for supported GBP and EUR households. That does not establish support for every Dutch bank, savings account or card. Check the exact institution and account type inside Monairo before buying a plan for bank sync. Manual capture and CSV/OFX statement imports are alternatives when a connection is unavailable.

Dyme's current web page lists Dutch examples including ING, ABN AMRO, Rabobank, bunq, Triodos, ASN, Knab and Revolut. Check your own account rather than treating those examples as a guarantee. Dyme bank list. Bank delivery can be delayed in any connected workflow; neither app should be assumed to have received every transaction.

What do Monairo and Dyme cost?

Monairo's Solo plan is for one person; Duo covers two and Family up to four. Local prices appear at the App Store or Google Play checkout, and eligible accounts can receive a three-month trial. Use the actual renewal price for your country when comparing. Monairo plans.

Dyme's official pricing help lists Silver at €8.99 monthly, €17.99 per three months or €59.99 yearly, and Gold at €12.99 monthly, €24.99 per three months or €69.99 yearly. The help article was updated in October 2025 and was still published when checked on 24 October 2026. Confirm the checkout before subscribing. Dyme prices.

Dyme's current plan page places custom categories and export in Silver, with budgets added in Gold. A paid plan and a separate contract-service charge answer different needs; check both before comparing the total cost. Dyme plan features.

Which app fits your household?

Choose Monairo if you want invited household members, a common budget and a habit of recording shared purchases, including cash. It is a Dyme alternative to consider for a couple's daily ledger, subject to your required languages, local store availability and bank coverage.

Choose Dyme if you want connected-account tracking and its subscription or fixed-contract services. Its browser access may also matter if you review finances on a computer. Account workflow; services; web access.

If you use both, assign each a clear job. For example, one could hold the shared purchase budget while the other is used to review contracts. Keep one agreed record of household spending so imports, withdrawals and manual entries do not inflate totals.
